Summary

I am from Pemberton and began working at the Ministry of Children and Family Development in 2018 when I transferred from Ashcroft to move home.

I have experience working within the Stl'atl'imc communities of Lil'wat, N'Quatqua, Samahquam, Skatin, and Tipella. I consider myself to be continuous on my journey of cultural awareness and am self aware of the daily impacts I potentially impose on Indigenous people within in my professional role.

Advocacy and client centered approaches lead my practice with a strong belief in social justice and equity.

Work History

Child Protection Worker

  • Intake, Family Services, Guardianship, Support Services, Child Service, Out of Care Services, Resource Services
  • Assessing child protection reports as received under the Child, Family and Community Services Act - responding with Family Development Response or Investigation
  • Interviewing adults and children - step wise and investigative interviewing
  • Collaborative Practices: Family Group Conferences (FGC), Family Case Planning Conference (FCPC), Integrated Case Management (ICM), Youth Transition (YT), Family Circles, and Mediation for court involved files
  • Working collaboratively with Indigenous communities and their representatives, police forces & probation, doctors, schools, hospitals, mental health & addictions support services, community support services
  • Family Court: prepare & serve court documents in timely manner, explain court proceedings to clients, work with counsel to plan for court proceedings, testify in court
  • Documentation for files including: structured decision making tools, file reviews, assessments, and analysis
  • Keep documents up to date including contractual agreements with MCFD and clients
  • Resource management for out of care placements including Family Plans
  • Pemberton office covers on reserve child protection for 5 Indigenous Communities in the St'at'imc Nation, therefore, working collaboratively with Indigenous representative and communities when any protection reports are received for community members
  • Consultation, planning and direction on all files with Team Leader, Practice Consultants, Directors of Practice, and Directors of Operations
  • Maintained detailed documentation of all case activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Maintained client confidentiality by adhering to strict privacy policies and ethical guidelines at all times.

Truth and Reconciliation Discussion Group

  • Participated every 6 weeks in an online group focused on implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions calls to action into child protection framework, policy, and guidelines.
  • Ethical discussions on current day child protection responses with Indigenous children, families, and community.
