African Nova Scotian Advisory Council, Dalhousie University, Halifax NS - Council Member

The Advisory Council, which includes Dalhousie students, staff, and faculty, supervises the implementation of the African Nova Scotian Strategy's recommendations. Lead and implement initiatives to promote inclusivity, representation, and engagement of the African Nova Scotian community. Collaborate with stakeholders to drive meaningful change and contribute to a more diverse and equitable environment within Dalhousie University and the surrounding community.


  • Recruit, promote and retain African Nova Scotian faculty and staff.
  • Designate African Nova Scotian representative(s) on the Senate and Board of Governors.
  • Develop and implement a Research Ethics Policy Framework and Protocol for working with African Nova Scotian peoples and communities.



Dalhousie University Student Leadership Academy: High-Performance Halifax NS - Student Participant

Selected participant in the High-Performance leadership program, designed for students in leadership roles committed to driving community and global impact. I engaged in a 1-1 mentorship with a senior leader, completed leadership assessments, and participated in workshops grounded in exemplary leadership practices and inner development goals frameworks. Workshops focused on self-reflection, cognitive and social leadership skills, restorative approaches,anti-oppression, and decolonization. I completed a capstone project, developing a human-centred approach to prevent youth in the child welfare system from entering the criminal justice system by promoting appropriate discretion and supportive interventions at the community level

In the spring and summer, Explore is a government-funded programme that immerses students entirely in French and English in stunning national settings. Students live on campus or with host families in the area while sessions are held at recognized schools.

The Voice, Halifax,NS- Youth Participant

The Voice Newsletter program provides current and former youth-in-care aged 14 to 18 who are interested in sharing their experiences of living in care through writing. Participants have lived in various care settings such as foster homes, group homes, with relatives, or in supervised apartments. Topics include the ups and downs of foster care, the meaning of family, significant challenges, and suggestions for improving the Nova Scotia child welfare system.


  • Writing and editing stories or features for the newsletter.
  • Collaborating with facilitators to create an appealing and visually engaging layout for the newsletter.
