Gynecology: Gained hands-on experience in gynecology, postoperative care, and pregnancy loss, providing direct care for 4-5 patients per shift. Responsibilities included conducting assessments, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to develop care plans, administering medications, managing pain, and delivering patient education. Supported patients through grief and bereavement care. Assisted with admissions, discharges, IV initiation, NG tube management, PPN, PICC line care, dressing changes, blood administration,urinary catheterization, bladder scanning, management of drains, post-mortem care and postoperative recovery. 

Day Surgery: Provided pre- and post-procedure support, preparing patients, conducting assessments, and ensuring smooth transitions throughout same-day procedural stays.

Simulation Coordinator Leadership Clinical

During this rotation, I worked closely with the Clinical Simulation Lead, observing and participating in the daily operations of the simulation labs. I attended interprofessional meetings, assisted in setting up simulation scenarios, and actively participated in running scenarios such as palliative sedation, code white, code blue, anaphylaxis, and compartment syndrome. Additionally, I observed pre- and post-simulation debriefs to gain insight into team dynamics and clinical decision-making.

Provided safe, competent, and holistic care for 1-2 mother/newborn dyads. Performed maternal and newborn assessments, patient and family education, and medication administration. Assisted with deliveries and fetal monitoring. Observed C-sections and recovery processes.

Participated in a variety of experiences including Well Child, Healthy Beginnings, and Home Care appointments, and participating in community assessments and outreach. Participated at immunization clinics administrating COVID and Flu vaccinations and observed school-based vaccination clinics. Furthered learning of the Social Determinants of Health and their impact on the community and its members. 

Unit 33- Neurosurgery & Trauma

Performed care for 2-3 stable and unstable patients, including focused assessments, neuro vital signs, receiving post-op patients, urinary catheterization and bladder scanning, removal staples, care of complex wounds and simple closed incisions, medication administration, TPN, PICC line care, oxygen therapy, blood administration, and peripheral IV therapy. 

Maintained excellent communication with buddy nurse, instructor, and multi-disciplinary team in order to ensure safe and competent care.

On this unit, I provided compassionate, empathetic and holistic care for 1-2 patients. Performed focused mental health assessments. I enhanced my communication skills and integrated trauma-informed care practices into my nursing approach. Additionally, I developed an understanding of the complex social determinants affecting mental health and utilized available resources to provide effective, holistic care.
