I volunteered for a week in the month of february 2023 at l'arche montréal. I spent a week working with people who have psychiatric disabilities, psychiatric illnesses, emotional disorders, or mental disabilities. It was a new environment for me but I was able learn on how to be more open minded and accepting towards those who were dealt different cards in life. I would help in the kitchen for lunch. I remember on the wednesday of that week we made pizza and as I sat with my friend Jimmy I realized how happy I was. I had a smile for the whole day, I was filled with joy and pride as I witnessed how happy we were making these gentle souls. I learned that day the incredible feeling of empathy and connection by the impact of our support on the well-being and happiness of others.
