For close to 18 years I have dedicated a part of my life to hockey, so when it was less of an option to play, I found that I could make the best impact on the ice growing the game for teams within Hockey Nova Scotia. This allowed me to feel achievement through the team teaching skills and good practices to youth.
For 5 summers now I have had the joy of coaching youth in my community in a wide range of watersports. I grew up on a lake and had a lot of experience with wake boarding, knee boarding and water skiing, so when I seen a post on facebook about needing additional hands I thought this would be a great way to grow the sports that I was lucky enough to enjoy for free.
I grew up playing every sport that did not interfere with hockey such as Baseball, Football, Soccer, Badminton, Track and Field, Golf, etc. I believe this will make me a better teacher because I can both get involved in my students extracurricular activities, while also being understanding of how difficult it may be to learn something new.
I take a lot of pride in my my health and fitness; this includes frequently trying to find new and fun ways to stay in good health. I believe this will make me a strong role model for my students as I continue to encourage youth to be their best self.
I grew up in a household where my parents both worked in the contracting business. Learning different roles/jobs in life is an undervalued skill that can help diversify how we view the world, which is why I try to continue adding to this skill, and hopefully will be passing this skill onto my students.
