Yard Labourer / Packaging Operator (Seasonal)

Worked as a yard laborer at a canola seed cleaning/treating/packaging plant, later moving inside to packaging as work slowed down outside.

Some of my work in the Yard included:

  • Unloading of seed from trucks, including directing trucks around the yard to loadout areas. This includes some of the sites most important quality control measures, as such I worked under the added stress of being liable for any product lost as a result of a mistake made by myself. I performed excellently despite the added pressure.
  • Maintenance of the Yard, including cleaning all conveyors, elevators, and bins in the "Bin Farm" on site. This could include climbing up to 100' high areas above the bins, as well as working with augers, tractors and other machinery.
  • Completing written inspections of conveyors, elevators, bins, and all semis arriving at the yard. I was also responsible for ensuring paperwork followed correct procedures and made it to administrative hands.


In the Packaging department, some of my job duties included:

  • Supervising automated equipment on the assembly line, and performing quality checks on items during. This required being able to focus on highly repetitive tasks for long periods of time
  • Performing basic repairs on industrial equipment as needed (I.E. Unjamming automatic pallet wrapper, unclogging chemical pumps, unloading and readjusting bag feeder, adjusting control settings for equipment, fixing palletizing robot computer, etc), otherwise ensuring maintenance was contacted.
  • Completing regular cleaning on all conveyance, chemical equipment, storage bins and all other components of the production line.
