  • Provide annual performance feedback reviews, guidance in goal setting and training initiatives
  • Write, review and distribute test protocols and Standard Operating Procedures for the histology laboratory
  • Training new staff, visiting scientists and students
  • Organize, distribute and evaluate annual proficiency testing panels to National network laboratories and International participants for certification in BSE detection by histopathology and immunohistochemistry. Provide technical advice and troubleshooting when necessary
  • Participate in annual Proficiency Testing in support of ISO: 17025 accreditation
  • Manage externally funded projects to include: Budget management, hiring, procurement / reconciliation and time management of project milestones
  • Implement and maintain quality system within the histology laboratory according to ISO/IEC: 17025:2017, participate in biennial re-accreditation
  • Member of the Quality Assurance Coordination Team at CFIA Lethbridge Laboratory, participate as an internal auditor and external technical assessor for the Standards Council of Canada (ISO/IEC: 17025:2005/2017)
  • Implement and monitor LEAN work practices
  • Research and evaluate new and evolving technologies, instrumentation and reagents for continual quality improvement
  • Initiate request for purchase and sole source justifications for capital equipment purchases
