• I helped to take care of my grandmother after she broke her hip and had surgery. I would goto the hospital every day after work to encourage and assist with getting her to start moving and standing. When she returned home. I continued to help her with basic needs. Assisted PSW with getting her in and out of bed or just repositioning her in bed along with getting her dressed and undressed with a catheter attached. Making sure she was taking medication and still understood why. When she ended up in a hospice. I continued to go everyday after work and help care for her. Talking to her or just listening, assisted nurse with changing her and provided comfort when the nurse was cleaning her bedsores. Since her passing I have had stronger passion to take care of others.
• My father had a stroke while visiting in 2019 and was unable to return home. I attended his rehab and spoke to all the dr's and specialist that were looking after him to find out what I could do to help him in his recovery. I traveled to Toronto everyday after work and started to help him increase his memory and mobility with little activities, encouraged him to use his left hand to try and do tasks as well as take him for short walks. He would have his rehab during the day, so I was just reinforcing what he was taught. With a lot of frustration and tears, we were eventually going for walks outside. My dad was allowed to leave rehab and moved into my brothers where I continued to care for him until he was able to return home 6 months after the stroke. He passed just before COVid of a heart attack.
