Roles

To provide advice, ensure delivery of project outputs, and the achievement of project outcomes

Responsibilities

• Strategic direction and governance for projects, works to provide guidance on project resource utilization, deadlines, staff hiring, and marketing needs.
• Inter-unit coordination. Fostering positive and timely communication about project progress to senior leadership, investors, and relevant stakeholders. Also, oversee project collaboration and resolve conflicts amongst teams.
• Setting policies.
• Allocating resources.
• Monitoring progress. Finalizes project monitoring to measure successful performance.
• Determine overall project scope and strategic project direction.
• Advocate for existing and new project initiatives within the organization
• Identify the right staff, project managers, and subject matter experts to work on projects.
• Brainstorm project strategy and innovative ideas to solve end-user problems.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Board Governance: Works with board in order to fulfill the BIO Vision and mission.

• Responsible for leading BIO in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
• Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

2) Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the BIO.

• Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support BIO’s mission.
• Responsible for the fiscal integrity of BIO’ to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
• Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.

3) Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.

• Responsible for implementation of BIO’s programs that carry out the organization’s mission.
• Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that BIO can successfully fulfill its Mission into the future.
• Responsible for the enhancement of BIO’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.

4) Organization Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.

• Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff.
• Responsible effective administration of BIO operations.
• Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.

Actual Job Responsibilities

• Working on paid and volunteer basis as part of a team focusing on advocacy on health and rights for youth Key Population communities in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

• Working on a volunteer basis with fellow staff to do advocacy on health and rights for the Key Population communities in Zanzibar.

• Working under the grant making and capacity support program of UHAI to increase knowledge and skills in financial and administrative management, grant making, and organizing and advocacy on issues of the sexual minority and sex worker movements of Eastern Africa.

• Working as a peer educator with communities of men who have sex with men (MSM)
• Provide health information and psychosocial support to young people and sex workers, enabling and facilitating the sharing of information.
