In my role as an Operations Supervisor my duties include ensure the safety of the team (approx. 85 personnel on crew) while completing day to day mining practices and meeting our shift targets. This job is a very safety sensitive job and focuses on the safe production of coal and waste in an industrial open pit mine. The job consists of, but it not limited to management of people and equipment, resources, time management while following safe work procedures. Training and information giving is an integral part of this position. This includes following the daily mine plan while implementing personal knowledge, experience and creativity.
During my time spent at Woods I spent many years working front line as a counsellor with families and children facing challenges. This job included connecting families to community resources, individual/group counselling, conflict management, educating, and traveling 500-1000km per week. I excelled as a superior staff member in this team and worked my way up to the Team Leader. The Team leader position included community committee participation, presentations, training for new/current staff, scheduling, policy and procedure training. As well, ensuring employee requirements were being met, annual employee evaluations, budgeting, ensuring that employees were being treated accordingly (collective agreement), hiring and termination of employees, and other duties.
This is a manual labour position working with hydraulic run equipment, pressure washers, pumps, hand tools, cables, slings, boom lines, tuggers and the repair and maintenance of all rig equipment. As well, crew truck transports, rig moves and set ups, site clean up, and the day to day drilling process. A strong focus on safe work practices was always adhered to not only keep myself safe but the other members of the rig team safe.
