Facilitating Veterans Employment

Relevant provisions of veteran-related legislation, including the roles and responsibilities of LVERs and DVOP Specialists, which veterans are eligible to work with DVOP Specialists, and how to implement Priority of Service within American Job Centers (AJC). Employment dynamics that contribute to the employment of veterans. Strategies for improving JVSG staff integration within the AJC, effectively working with diverse clients, employers, and staff of external service agencies. Advising clients with regards to online resource tools to research labor market information, individual businesses, and job postings, as well as apprenticeship, licensing, and certification opportunities. Engaging veterans on translation of military experience into terms employers will find attractive, and how to best communicate their abilities in cover letters, resumes, interviewing and other application materials.

Employer Outreach

Strategies for creating broad awareness about the value veterans bring to businesses as employees, as well as the value of the services provided by AJC. Develop presentations to business groups and apprenticeship committees. Tactics for consulting with individual employers to promote the hiring of specific clients. Employer collaboration in the planning and implementation of job club workshops and job fairs. Education of federal contractors regarding avenues AJCs can help comply with regulatory requirements.Conduct outreach to employers and engage in advocacy efforts with hiring executives to increase employment opportunities for veterans and encourage the hiring of veterans

• Extensive work with partners and other service providers to promote and facilitate priority services to veterans
• Advocate on behalf of veterans for employment and training opportunities with business, industry, local colleges and community-based organizations
• Worked closely with Veterans' Service Organizations to ensure eligible veterans receive services to which they are entitled
• Work closely with veteran counterparts, DVOP’s, on case management, development of ‘Individual Employment Plans’, resumes and case conferencing with veteran clients.
