Took courses on fungal cell morphology, physiology, fungal pathogenicity and fungal genetics to participate in university laboratories and activities.
Used Gram stain to increase knowledge of Gram positive and negative bacteria.
Used blood agar to prepare samples in which leishmaniasis parasites can grow.
Extracted and analyzed leishmaniasis DNA samples to determine the potential success of a vaccine in combating the parasite.
Participated in mouse necropsy to learn how to humanely and ethically extract blood samples from an infected source.
Learned to use cytometry to measure various infected leishmaniasis samples to which a potential vaccine was applied and to observe the N1 and N2 immune response against the parasite.
