Job overview

• Worked with children from K to Gr. 7 in a small structured setting for students with moderate to severe autism, including behavioural and/or communicative challenges and whose learning needs cannot be met in mainstream classroom.
• Gave one-on-one attention to students, while maintaining overall focus on entire group while enabling the teacher to complete 85% of a sit-down group lesson plan on time in an autistic structured classroom.
• Within the structured autism class that I work in I would have a 75% successfully transition of students from one school activity to the next without incidence by using the classroom transition program developed by the teacher and the other education assistants in the classroom.
• 50% success rate when adequately prompting a non-verbal autistic student to independently use their communication aid when the student is inappropriately using a behavior when wanting a reinforcing item or need.
• Was able to increase communication skills within the classroom by having the students request a food item by using a communication system called the “Picture Exchange System” as well as collaboration with my other co-workers that resulted in a 65% increase in interactive communication of a “wanted need”.
