My duties as a Medical Laboratory Technologist 2 in Microbiology included :
- Complicated workup of microbiology specimens including carbapenemase producing organisms , difficult gram stains, all specimen types and testing
-Supervising day to day workflow and adjusting staffing , scheduling as required
-Monitoring and mentoring staff and students, as well as providing feedback and overviews
-Consultation with Medical Microbiologists
-Review of discrepant sensitivity patterns
-Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting including working with various vendors for resolution

-Quality control review and troubleshooting
-Attending workplace planning meetings
-Conducting random retrospective bench audits and performance audits
My duties as a Medical Laboratory Technologist 1 Included:
-Performing, reading and interpreting gram stains
-Workup of various culture types using automated methods and biochemical testing
-Using LIS and Keistra software to generate quality results
-Performing and documenting Quality control and maintenance
-Setting up manual antibiotic testing and using CLSI to interpret
-Training students , new staff and residents on various culture types
-Introductory experience with molecular testing including preparing batches for PCR, running PCR machines, interpretaion and reporting of curves
Other experience included :
- Several months as a Laboratory Technologist 1 at the Northeast Center doing phlebotomy, basic chemistry, hematology and blood banking
- 4 week introductory training and job shadowing at the Canadian Western Dermatology Institute doing frozen sectioning and staining ( Moh's)
My duties as a Medical Laboratory Assistant included:
