Having a background in both retail and fast food have certainly made me strong in the aspects of multi tasking, being on the move, and always being ready for the next task. They've also taught me much in the regards of time management. However, I've always had a preference for jobs that require physicality and a strong work ethic. Being able to focus on my work and minimize distractions is a must for me, as I consider myself a hard worker and very much enjoy simply focusing on what im doing in the moment.
Returning to McDonald's, I took a different approach to my training and chose to be cross trained. This essentially means that I would balance the responsibilities of order taking and general customer service with the ones of kitchen staff. Multi tasking is much more prevalent now, and the added work keeps me comfortably busy.
After receiving an opportunity to work at Station Wood Working from a friend, I became a labourer for a period of a week. My responsibilities included; loading logs onto the saw mill, hauling cut lumber off the saw mill and stacking them in piles sorted by length, filling bags with the saw dust that would accumulate, disposing of said bags, and assisting the "Cutter" in straightening the logs.
It was a physically demanding job, but certainly felt rewarding.
Parcel pickup at Sobeys was another position that demanded constant movement. From bringing shopping carts inside, to loading up boxes of supplies for different parts of the store. I was also responsible for cleaning the entire store, and shoveling the paths in winter.
Working as a crew member at McDonald's required me to be constantly on the move. There are a wide range of responsibilities across the store that demanded quick and efficient work, and multi-tasking.
My first time at McDonald's was spent mostly on the customer service side, but I would generally be responsible for the cleanliness of the store.
