Dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) with progressive career history in providing safe patient care, Proven to remain calm under pressure and skillfully handle difficult patients and high-stress situations. Very good at trouble shooting situations especially on many missions and making things work. I usually went as scrub which is my first love but it seems my abilities now have me doing the circulating and organizing parts which is invaluable as things do not always go as planned.
Performed all usual duties associated with working in an active treatment hospital Operating Room .
Over the years took on the responsibility of over seeing the Orthopedic Service and teaching staff the different joint systems .
Eventually was appointed to unofficially oversee the Ophthalmology service and then became the official Service Coordinator for that department.
I officially retired in 2009 but have worked casual since then. Now I work at least two days a week , but will agree to more if they are short staff. I work mostly in the cataract room now as it seems to be my passion at this point in my life.
Retiring left me with plenty of time to start working on my desire to try volunteering in other countries with those less fortunate .
My first mission was in 2012 in Guatemala with Project Hands doing Gynecological and General surgeries .
In 2013 I was fortunate to start with VHI and I went to DR for my first Cataract Mission. Since then I have taken part in six missions with VHI in Honduras, one in Ecuador, one in Galapagos and one in Guatemala .
I also was fortunate to work with Women for World Heath on two missions in Peru.
Grenada will be my fourteenth mission , twelve being cataract. . I was lucky enough to have been there sailing twice and am so looking forward to be able to help the local people of such a lovely place.
