Isabella Jackson

I worked under Greg Newton at the University of Victoria's Humanities Computing and Media Centre (HCMC), specifically researching for the Great Canadian War Project. This assignment required me to research the birth, marriage, enlistment, and death records of Canadian soldiers who fought during World War I. I developed many analytical and data-collection skills throughout this project, including:

• Managed large-scale databases to ensure timely access to critical information for key stakeholders.
• Developed custom algorithms to optimize data mining, increasing the effectiveness of analytical insights.

I have been working under Dr. John Lutz of the University of Victoria's History Department as a research assistant for his British Columbia Smallpox Project. As a Research Assistant, my regular tasks include:

• Conducted literature reviews by analyzing peer-reviewed articles and synthesizing relevant findings.
• Analyzed experimental data with statistical software to identify trends and insights.
• Compiled research reports to summarize findings and recommendations for stakeholders.
• Monitored project timelines, ensuring timely completion of tasks while maintaining high-quality output.

Being a server at the Canadian Brewhouse greatly aided my confidence in myself, my multitasking skills, and being a part of a large team. I am grateful that this job financially supported me throughout university and introduced me to working within the corporate restaurant industry.

• Collaborated with team members during busy shifts for efficient workflow and excellent guest experiences.
• Performed opening and closing duties, ensuring the dining area was prepared for seamless service transitions.
