Summary

Volunteering on National Public Lands day of September 2023 with FRVC, led to a commitment as a Forest Service volunteer and Patrol Leader. Recognition of volunteering led to being awarded for 250+ hours of service with the FS, and over 100 hours in FRVC. On track to acquire a degree and certificate in Wildland Resources and Forestry at CCC and Administration of Justice from PCC, further education at CPP in pursuit of becoming a wildlife biologist is the objective.

STEM 698AH: COOPERATIVE EDUCATION IN STEM.
Completion of a 60 hour internship over the Winter semester course with the USFS Recreation at Angeles National Forest. Due to the 2025 California Wildfires, the forest remained closed for a duration of this course, leading to different work opportunities.

  • Working at the Forest Service Glendora office.
  • Working with firemen to clean out the rain gutters of leaves and wood debris, raking and shoveling piles of olives, acorns, and dead leaves around the office’s exterior and depositing them in the trash.
  • Shredding private documents, carrying boxes into work trucks, and recording yearly numbers in ticket books.
  • Cleaning up the basement.
  • Cleaning up trash at Maker Flats at Mt. Baldy and spray painting fire grills
  • Cleaning up trash up Highway 39, working with field rangers, recreation, and painting dumpsters
  • Power-washed Glendora office entrance, raked leaves and olives

Completion of a 60 hour internship over the Fall semester course with the USFS Recreation at Angeles National Forest. Final letter grade - (A); 65 total hours completed.

  • Removing pounds of trash from turnouts, sides of the road, parking lots, riverbed, and hiking trails.
  • Shoveling dirt and raking leaves, acorns, and sticks from campsite spots, as well as removing debris with flat shovels, McLeods, and picks.
  • Observing and comprehending FPO’s enforcing fire restrictions in heavily-trafficked campgrounds.
  • Cleaning up piles of pine needles from Oak Groves Picnic Area.
  • Emptying campsite trash cans and helping Rec Tec’s clean Pit Privies by holding the hose and carrying toilet paper.
  • Shoveling Crystal Lake Staircase, clearing trash out of the gutter, and removing all trash from Crystal Lake parking lot.
  • Picking out tools for the day and helping to put them away at the end of the day.

I participated from 7:00 am - 12:00 pm in a Tree Planting event as a conservation effort to protect our watershed and native trees such as Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa), Jeffrey Pine (Pinus jeffreyi), and the Coulter Pine (Pinus coulteri). My boyfriend Craig and I dug a foot down, added water, gel, and mulch on top of 7 young trees that we planted.

Rode along on a shift with LEO Michael Terrazas from 12:00 pm to 6:00pm. Gave warning citations for parking in invalid spots. Visited Forest Service Field Ranger’s. Searched for person selling blow-ups. Searched for car that was suspected of Graffiti. Gave citations to person parked in disabled parking. Told recreation picnic groups to move double-parked car before being towed. Alerted fire department for dog bite. Helped Fire Department arrive for heat stroke call and opened road gate. Gave citation to person littering hot charcoal in streambed.
