Projects

Future Projections of GHG Emissions in Canada Under Various Carbon Tax Scenarios

  • Using R, and the GCAM model (market equilibrium model), I modelled the impact of various Canadian carbon-tax scenarios on output of Carbon dioxide equivalents from 1995-2100.
  • Projections of climate metrics under various carbon-tax scenarios were identified, and a forward-looking pathway to net-zero emissions was found. This project required months of research into pollution sources (both stationary i.e. heavy industry and mobile i.e. automobiles), management, and regulation of emissions in Canada.

2023 Wildland Fire Impacts on Ontario Woodland Caribou

  • Using ArcGIS Pro, I conducted a comparative analysis using hotspot analysis of ignition points, and the spatial autocorrelation between fire area and caribou migratory ranges in Ontario.
  • The findings from these various spatial statistical tests were presented and discussed in a technical report and literature review. The final report detailed flora and fauna outcomes and future predictions based on the results of the analysis.

Ecotoxicology Study: Antibiotic Concentrations in Municipal Wastewater Treatment

  • During this multi month study and literature review, I examined the presence and concentration of antibiotics both from human and livestock sources and compared Canadian data with peer-reviewed literature on safe concentrations of antibiotics in water globally. I examined the current possible methods of antibiotic extraction during water treatment and developed a policy briefing based on findings and my recommendations.

Baseline Impact Study for Soil in the Niagara Escarpment

  • I conducted a baseline and predictive environmental assessment study based on current Ontario Regulation, procedure and compliance standards. The baseline study included: baseline knowledge foundation of the soil health, classification, composition, and characteristics prior to any development or alteration to the intrinsic properties of the regional soils. The predictive study used historical data of the impacts of aggregate mining in the Niagara Escarpment to predict soil pH, outcomes for flora and fauna, and ground water quality.

Protecting Halton Region’s Fragile Aquifer: The Jefferson Salamander - Ambystoma Jeffersonianum

  • I examined the regional populations of Jefferson Salamander’s, with particular focus on this species as an indicator species for ground water quality in and around aggregate mining sites. I identified the genetic and environmental factors that make this a COSEWIC identified endangered species. Culminated with a policy brief aimed at addressing habitat fragmentation, ground water depletion, and recommendations for heavy industry.
