I am currently in secondary 2 at College Sainte-Marcelline. In addition to school, I spend 12 hours a week dancing for a competition team. I also volunteer every week as an assistant dance teacher at my studio. I work as a scorekeeper for the Can/Am hockey tournaments for several hours during the weekend. I also babysit children and really enjoy doings this. During my free time, I love to go jogging but especially to play golf. In the past, I was on a competitive synchronize swimming team which taught me how to cooperate and trust my teammates.
I scorekeep for the Can/Am hockey tournament. During the game, I need to handle the buzzer, fix the score board and write on the score sheet. This has made me very good at multitasking and also good at time management since I need to spread out my work so that I can accomplish everything in the allotted time.
I help dance teachers coach children ages 4 to 7 learn how to dance. This takes a lot of observation and interaction on my part in order for me to provide personalized feedback for each dancer. Even though this is volunteer work, I still feel that it has given me a lot. For example, I am able to engage with the children, teach them and enforce structure and studio rules while still being kind to them.
I really enjoy babysitting children since it has taught me to communicate and entertain younger children. It has also made me very responsible since I learned how to handle situations where you need to make smart and safe decisions. I love creating bonds with children while also being able to be responsible.
Excellent Communication: I am an assistant dance coach and I have learned how to interact with young dancers very well and enforce rules and structure while still being nice and engaging towards them
Teamwork and collaboration: I am on a competitive dance team with 8 other dancers and I have learned how to be committed and to work as a team
First Aid/CPR: I took a couple CPR and First Aid classes while in school so if anything happens I know how to help out
Multitasking abilities: I am able to handle several tasks at once For example, when I score keep, I am able to manage the buzzer and write down jersey numbers an scores all at the same time Also, I teach 9 kids how to dance and I need to respond to their various needs while still maintaining my responsibilities
Being part of a competitive dance team takes hard work and dedication I value my attendance as does my team Therefore, commitment is important and I learned to prioritize my school and dance in an organized fashion I have added work to my schedule as I enjoy the new challenges and learning new skills
Critical thinking: I am very good at knowing what to do in a situation that can be stressful or complicated since I always stay calm and use my logic sense
