The Indigenous Cultural Support Worker is responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of culture activities for our Indigenous Women’s Program – “Empowered Traditions.”
The Cultural Support Worker assumes all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s mission, vision and policy standards.
This position will work in collaboration with the Cultural Program Coordinator and report to the Director of Operations and Development and the Director of Counselling and Advocacy.
The Indigenous Cultural Support Worker is responsible for providing direct and indirect cultural services to The Women’s Resource Centre staff and clients.
In order to develop and enhance the cultural service practice of TWRC, the Indigenous Cultural Support Worker will develop and deliver locally accepted cultural practices in consultation with the community Elders/Knowledge Keepers, to preserve and promote traditional practices to enhance positive and strong cultural identity.
The Indigenous Cultural Support Worker will be providing education and training to TWRC staff and members of the community regarding cultural values, beliefs, traditions, and perspectives on individual, family, and community life.
This position is restricted to First Nations applicants only.
Respect and sensitivity as well as knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, traditions and the Seven Grandfather Teachings is imperative in this role.
Knowledge of the history and culture of the Indigenous peoples of Manitoba.
Knowledge of The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada-Calls to Action, and MMIWG2S- calls to Justice and national action plan.
Knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices and protocols is required.
Knowledge of agencies, programs, and supports for Indigenous community serving Indigenous women.
