Edmund Jiang

• UBCEA is a non-profit student run organization under the AMS. Our vision is to foster an inclusive esports community the Great Vancouver area through competitive tournaments, social events, celebrity meetups, and more.
• As the VP Internal Relations, my main responsibilities is running the Lenovo Legion Lounge in the Nest, collaborating with clubs, communicating with the AMS through room bookings, as well as helping with the logistical planning for:

Icebreaker: An event where we set up booths in the Nest for our game departments to introduce the club to new students at UBC.

Our annual tournaments: Including Summer series, Winter series, Cascadia Cup, etc that require extensive room bookings.

Gaming EXPO: Our flagship event that encompasses tournaments, guest speakers, artist alleys, and various booths to engage our 500+ club members.

• Furthermore, I am also responsible for leading the Internal Relations department by hosting bi-weekly meetings and checking up on my 5 executives.

• The B+MMSA is the official student association for the B+MM program at UBC Sauder. We provide resources for students to connect, collaborate, and ultimately conquear their educational and career endeavours through various events.
• As a coordinator, my job was to oversee the planning and execution of events such as:

Boothing: Where I advertised our program and student association to other students in the Nest and first year residences.

Cocktails and Conversations: A social event purposed to connect students within the program from various faculties.

Generating Moment and Paving the Path: Our annual networking events where we invite professors, alumni, and industry professionals to speak to B+MM students.

• Furthermore, I liaised communications with the AMS and RHL Graduate School through emails and professional meetings.

• Research mentorship under Professor Kurtis Hanlon (PhD candidate, Department of Asian Studies) to learn about research methods and key principles in approaching the humanities disciplines.
• Analyzed seminal works and discussed concepts such as orientialism, post modernism, and revisionism through the context of East Asia’s depiction in western historiography.
• Wrote a comprehensive research proposal posing the question: “Did Neo-Confucianism have an ideological influence on Japan’s membership in the Axis Powers”.

• I tutor IB Geography, Economics, English Literature, Theory of Knowledge, and the Extended Essay to current Diploma program students.
• Lessons focus on improving writing, research, analytical skills while also reinforcing understanding of concepts.
• Provide advice on exam preparation strategies as well as provide feedback for essays and written assignments.

• FUSE Society is a federally registered non-profit organization aimed to increase business literacy among youth through providing free, case based materials and curriculum to high schools across Canada.
• As the former BC President, I co-lead a national team of 42 executives to organize events including:

Circuit: Business university webinar featuring admissions officers

National Business Program: Business case-study program that delivers a series of two lessons to high schools

Challenge: National High School Case Competition usually hosted at UBC Sauder

• As a Director of the Board, I act as a mentor for future executive teams by providing them with advice, resources, and university connections.
• I have also taught 10 case cracking lessons, connected with industry professionals, and acquired $4000 in grant funds.

• Vancouver Charity Games is a non-profit organization that hosts eSports (video game) tournaments for local charities in BC.
• As a Lead Organizer, i plan out event logistics, manage donations, and serve as an event host.
• We have accumulated $1250 in charity donations and amassed 300+ competitors across North America across 4 tournaments.

• Volunteered for the Asian Studies careers night, an event that invited guest speakers who graduated with degrees in Asian Studies at UBC to talk about their professions.
• I was responsible with set-up, clean-up, distributing name tags, and managing the lottery ticket boxes.
• I also helped facilitate discussion between guest speakers and our attendees, ensuring there was active participation.

• Volunteered 210 hours over two summers as a General Volunteer and later promoted to Lead Volunteer for youth camps at Simon Fraser University.
• As a General volunteer, I ran recreational games, taught science lessons, and arranged craft activities.
• As a Lead volunteer, I acted as a role model and provided constructive feedback to general volunteers to help build confidence in their leadership skills.
• Became skilled in communicating with youth ages 6-14 while maintaining workplace professionalism.
