Industrial Painter

BC Rail-Contracted
1999 - 2007
  • As a contracted painter for the BC Rail steam program I had the task of prepping and painting surfaces of multiple operating steam locomotives and rolling stock.
  • Prep work consisted of grinding, needle gunning and sanding all surfaces. Once stripped, surfaces received high-build and epoxy primer prior to painting with PPG Concept paints.
  • Utilizing archival blueprints, accurate templates and masks were created in CAD.
  • Due to daily operating use, repair touch up and blending work was also preformed.

Industrial Painter

Canadian Pacific Railway-Contracted
2000 - 2002
  • As a painter, I was part of the restoration of CPR steam locomotive #2816.
  • Following the complete disassembly of the locomotive and tenders, the metal surfaces were stripped, repaired and prepped for painting. The prep work consisted of sanding/grinding, needle gunning/sand blasting, degreasing and priming with high-build and epoxy primers.
  • Final paints were colour matched to archival samples and PPG Concept 2 part paints were used for the final application.
  • High temp paints were applied to parts of the locomotive susceptible to elevated temperatures.
  • Acid etch primers were utilized on the jacketed areas of the locomotive.
  • The internal water compartment of the tender had a rubberized sealer applied to the interior of the structure.
  • The striping and lettering was replicated from archival blueprints in CAD and masking templates were produced.

Industrial Painter

CN Rail-Contracted
1999 - 1999
  • Assisted in the refurbishing and painting of business car Pacific Spirit for Canadian National.
  • Exterior surfaces were stripped of existing paint and fillers.
  • Preparation of surfaces utilizing random orbital sanders, grinders and needle guns to remove old paint and residue prior to applying high build and epoxy primers.
  • Mig welding was also used to repair various metal structures.
  • Archival blueprints were interpreted to accurately dimension the lettering, striping and logos.
  • Various parts of the project required re-chroming. These parts were disassembled and catalogued before delivery to an offsite chroming service. The organization of parts prior to chroming allowed for ease of reassembly months later.
