INTAKE WORKER, Salvation Army - MAXWELL MEIGHEN CENTRE, 2018, present, Completing assessments, intakes and discharges with residents (e.g., newcomer refugees) and accurately inputting this data to account for the number of new clients received within the day., Taking client temperatures and completing a COVID-19 with staff, visitors and new clients upon entering the shelter., Developing a therapeutic rapport with clients, actively listening and engaging individuals to support, assess specific needs and provide specific resources based on those needs., Consulting with internal colleagues such as Counsellors and Housing Workers and making appropriate external referrals., Providing support to clients facing issues of poverty, mental health, addictions, abuse, and social isolation., Working collaboratively to resolve conflict and maintain a safe & supportive shelter environment., Responding to potentially life threatening or serious situations such as opiate overdoses and calling emergency personnel., Providing residents with any requested information, orientating new residents to the shelter rules, schedules, and available services., Handling confidential matters with discretion and tact., Completing security checks throughout the day and bed audits at night., Updating a daily bed check list and issuing meal tickets., Documenting incidents and sharing pertinent information at shift change., Reporting any urgent Health and Safety concerns to supervisor.
