Community and Volunteer

I am a small business owner who is passionate about using my business as a platform for connecting with the larger community. Currently, I am focused on helping newer businesses get more exposure by offering space in my restaurant for pop-up sales, and by collaborating on new products. For example, I am working with a local artist by using her designs on a t-shirt which I now sell, and with a local brewery on a beer we helped curate, for our 50th Anniversary.  I have also had two local authors come and do book signings in the restaurant, and follow up by selling some copies of their book in the restaurant. In addition, I also have also worked with a few of the local breweries on charity events for local animal rescues and the Edmonton Food Bank. I also helped co-found a business collective "Block 72" which serves to create a name for our block of up-and-coming businesses that have less visibility from the street. Finally, I have recently joined Zoe's Animal Rescue Society, both personally, as a volunteer fundraiser and dog socializer, and through my business where I have created three ongoing initiatives to help raise money and awareness for their cause. In addition, the restaurant has donated food and gift certificates to our adjacent community leagues and many other non-profit organizations, sports teams and charity benefits. My volunteer experience also includes extensive work with J.H. Picard school across the street from the restaurant. For three years I ran an afterschool art program and for several years I was an active member of the school council, participating and organizing several fundraising activities in support of a new playground.
