In March of 2016, I began my journey towards becoming an educator. I've worked with children since then creating new bonds and relationships with not only my students, but also the parents and other staff. My goal as an educator is to make everyone I come in contact with feel welcomed, accepted, loved, and respected, as well as, ensure that I can meet all the needs of the students in my class using differentiated instruction. I enjoy pouring my hard work and dedication into everything I do and all of the goals I set for myself.
I have been employed with the Los Angeles Unified School District since July 2022. I was employed after receiving my teaching credential at California State University Northridge. I was hired to be a fourth grade teacher and have learned many new positive work habits as I have been here. Working in the education field has taught me better communication skills with both students and parents, how to work with diverse students and families, and how to work with my colleagues. Throughout this time, I learned how to work closely with the community to enrich my understanding of the area I am teaching in. I have also created positive relationships with my colleagues and administrators. working closely with each one of them to fulfill the goals set in place. I have used my time at Liggett Street Elementary to learn all that I can and use all of it in my day to day work.
During my time as a substitute teacher in Sulphur Springs Union School District I worked in many different grade levels to foster a deeper level of understanding for all grade levels. Some responsibilities I possessed throughout my time in Sulphur Springs that has enhanced my teaching and professionalism today includes, taking over classes for regular classroom teachers, managing assignments, student needs, and recordkeeping. Kept students on-task with proactive behavior modification and positive reinforcement strategies. Implemented prepared lesson plans in established classrooms and proctored quizzes, tests, and standardized examinations.
During the five month period as a student teacher at Pico Canyon Elementary School, I was given many opportunities to learn and excel my understanding of teaching and education. I was a student teacher in a first grade class where I developed and implemented engaging lesson plans tailored to diverse learning styles, the curriculum, and California State Standards. I learned how to facilitated small group instruction, enhancing student comprehension and participation. While in the classroom, I established a positive classroom environment, fostering respect and encouraging active learning. I was fortunate enough to develop strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues during grade level meetings, professional developments, and parent teacher conferences.
I was employed at Sunshine for a bit over a year and a half. I began working there a few months before I graduated high school. When I began working at Sunshine Day Camp I was an assistant teacher and gradually received more responsibilities and duties. Some of these responsibilities that I had while working there included, working with parents who were curious about the program as well as signing families up, training incoming staff members, and working closely with the directors to ensure and safe space for both the children and the staff. Working at Sunshine Day Camp allowed me to build on skills; such as communication. Communication is key, and me being very outgoing has positively affected my communication skill. It is very easy for me to communicate with people and greet them with positivity and confidence. Throughout the experience at Sunshine Day Camp, I also learned how to take payments and practiced working at a front desk, working with our parents/clients. I left Sunshine Day Camp due to a conflicting schedule with school.
