Work History

Software Development Engineer

Amazon Web Services
Santa Monica
11.2022 - Current
  • Wrote an integer program for a critical optimization problem, demoed an ultra-fast hybrid solution and taught LP/IP theory to the team, presented a design doc to a senior and principal with in-depth comparison of integer programming, simulated annealing, column generation, and more, receiving praise from leadership
  • Designed and delivered the base implementation for the KCL's new single-table format on a time crunch, with delicate in-place migration support
  • Invented a system to coordinate feature rollout across deployments of KCL versions based on deadlock-free merging of state machines, utilizing graph algorithms like cycle detection, topological sort, and dominators
  • Fixed an obscure race condition in the C++ core of the KPL for one of our biggest customers; thoroughly whiteboarded and reproduced the different cases with a custom simulator
  • Created a canary to launch scheduled test workflows, integrating AWS services like Lambda, CloudFormation, S3, and EventBridge with internal build tools to enhance testing capabilities
  • Added IPv6 coverage to an API endpoint tester using an HTTP adapter, creating the necessary routing table and VPC infrastructure changes using CFN
  • Onboarded one of our components to a fault injection microservice to chaos test a dependency outage scenario
  • Tested and delivered the KPL changes to add support for 10MB records, debugging rate limiting and batch aggregation code paths
  • Created a monitor to respond to user input in DDB by excluding hosts from holding leases or leadership based on a regex pattern
  • Prototyped a solution to force leadership to specific pipeline stages during a deployment with rollback detection based on timestamps and version comparison
  • Contributed to the server-side buildout of an important new API launch, converting high-level designs to workflow implementations for the feature set
  • Resolved deployment safety risks and incorporated CI/CD best practices through a homegrown IaC framework
  • Iteratively brought the deployment pipeline for one of the largest fleets in Kinesis into compliance with company-wide deployment automation standards
  • Designed, implemented, and demoed a prototype where I onboarded our service to a dynamic config solution, wrote automated scripts to be hooked into our deployment pipeline, and updated our leader election algorithm, documenting tradeoffs and would-be race conditions along the way
  • Spearheaded an opportunity to utilize an automated testing feature to save ongoing operator effort and engineer bandwidth

Software Developer

Epic Systems Corporation
Verona
10.2021 - 10.2022
  • Worked on the Payer Platform application team to improve relationships between payers and providers and shift the United States towards value-based care
  • Collaborated with project stakeholders and subject matter experts to identify and address diverse customer use cases
  • Learned through code review and complex testing workflows about current development in various subdomains of Payer Platform, especially claims exchange and member attribution
  • Created an automated report workflow for customers to view their attributed members
  • Investigated solutions for client-server communication issues over FHIR, enhancing interoperability with external systems
  • Participated in cross-team data model and infrastructure discussions concerning topics like risk adjustment and prior authorization
  • Completed a rigorous training program and became internally certified for development using Typescript, C#/.NET, and React, along with Epic's own APIs and frameworks
