Yves Constantin JOUONTSO TENE

As a civil engineering specialist in charge of developing and monitoring the implementation of housing and other urban infrastructures construction's projects :

• I successfully coordinated construction of over 135 social housing units in various regions in cameroon, the projects aimed at building affordable housing units, social facilities including water boreholes, toilets and wastewater collection equipment in slums.

I was as well responsible for :

• Analyzing general information, selecting materials and developing various technical solutions, and proposing integrated designs and models.
• Researching the best practices and proposing new, more effective ways of designing affordable housing for communities affected by crises and low-income workers in the city
• Developing, applying, and managing processes and methods of work in low-carbon housing/municipal infrastructures project.
• Learning, understanding, and transferring basic knowledge of organizational policies and procedures relating to affordable housing and public infrastructure and consistently applying them in work tasks.

I successfully supervised the project preparation and the construction of 158 water boreholes in 83 districts in Cameroon, aiming at reducing infections in health facilities and providing clean water to communities :

• Developing project terms of reference and tender documents
• Preparing draft of standard documents and project roadmaps
• Following up the recruitment of implementing partners
• Estimating quantities for contract items and budgeting
• Reviewing contractor submittals for adherence to technical specifications on construction projects
• Supervising preliminary site visits and studies and initiating coordination meetings
• Coordinating construction site supervision missions to verify infrastructures and documenting experience and other conditions
• Coordinating the elaboration of reports and construction documents, together with focal points in various regions.

I supported the implementation of projects aiming at providing basic infrastructures services to vulnerable communities :

• Supporting tenure analysis and land demarcations for construction projects implementation.
• Designing housing solutions and other basic infrastructures.
• Ensuring alignment of projects with local context and beneficiaries needs.
• Leading the planning and organization of technical training of local volunteers and specialized technicians involved in the construction projects.
• Overseeing the preparation of project brief and visibility materials
• Planning and managing field interventions.

I also supported resource mobilization and strategic partnerships development in support of UN-Habitat portfolio development in Cameroon, the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo :

• Carrying out missions and identifying opportunities for housing development within communities
• Translate social problems into housing projects concepts and support resource mobilization.
• Supporting the preparation of strategic meetings with potential real estate development partners and donors.
• Developing communication and outreach tools and ensuring dissemination to projects stakeholders, potential donors, and partners
• Supporting the general implementation of UN-Habitat portfolio and engagement within the UN Cooperation Frameworks and the UN country team coordination

As an intern, my job was to :

• Prepare engineering related calculations, design drawings, specifications, and visual aids.
• Carry out field missions in order to support the smooth implementation of field work in engineering related components in construction sites (boreholes and housing projects, site inspections)
• Collect and integrate data and applying technical principles and theories to assist in interpreting and analyzing field data.
• Compare investigation findings to relevant studies and national and local regulations to assess compliance, drafting reports, and documenting results and presenting findings
• Support the development of communication and outreach tools for project's visibility.
• Miscellaneous assignments on an as-needed basis.

I was responsible for :

• Inspecting construction sites regularly to identify and eliminate potential safety hazards.
• Supervising and instructing the construction team as well as subcontractors and ensuring compliance with constructions standards.
• Training site workers on construction safety regulations and accident protocol.
• Enforcing site safety rules to minimize work-related accidents and injuries.
• Handling site accidents in accordance with established accident protocol.
• Maintaining an accurate record of construction employee attendance.
• Evaluating the performance of construction employees and instituting disciplinary measures as needed.
• Analyzing blueprints to ensure that construction projects meet design, safety, and budget specifications.
• Recommending changes to construction operations or procedures to increase efficiency.
