I currently work at my family’s restaurant during the summer break and weekends throughout the year. My responsibilities include taking orders, working the register, helping the kitchen (sous chef), and making sure food/drinks are given to the correct tables. Also, working with a diverse customer base (different ages and abilities) has improved my communication skills and ability to accommodate those who may need a little more assistance. Last summer I also volunteered as a assistant coach at my local community soccer club (Parkdale Village Soccer). I was responsible for a group of kids between the ages of 5-7 years old which can be a difficult task but one that I have learned to overcome. During the beginning of grade 11, I was fortunate to be accepted into my school's WEB program. WEB stands for Where Everyone Belongs, here the WEB leaders (selected grade 11’s/ 12’s) are involved in helping the new grade 9’s feel more comfortable with their transition to a new school. One way we did that was by going on an overnight trip with a goal to build stronger relationships between students and teachers. one example of when I demonstrated leadership was when my group and I had to build a fire to burn the string above. Since we where competing with another group we had to work together to get our materials from the woods and start building our fire on a timely manner, it was my job to distribute responsibility and in the end my group won.
