I am a hardworking and responsible student seeking a job as a Rink Guard with the City of Toronto.
I would be an attentive Rink Guard, paying careful attention to skaters' safety and responding quickly to any skating concerns and questions. Having played hockey since I was five years old, I am very knowledgeable of commonly used rink equipment, upkeep of skating rink and any skating related equipment.
I have played GTHL A and AA hockey for the past five years so this has helped me develop strong skating skills. Last year in AA I was voted by my teammates to be an assistant captain and this allowed me to demonstrate my strong leadership, team player and communication skills. Participating in numerous hockey games and tournaments has allowed me to develop strong multitasking and problem solving skills. I have also learned how to make quick decisions under pressure.
My family and I have done public skating and shinny at the City of Toronto rinks since I was 4 years old so I am very familiar with how public skates and shinny operate. I have taught my younger siblings how to skate. I have also volunteered with my team to do “Reindeer Games” where we help young children learn how to skate and feel comfortable on the ice.
Being an Asian hockey player in a sport that is not very diverse, I feel it is important to have Asian representation in our City of Toronto rinks. I am very proud of my Asian identity and hope to encourage and support other young skaters of diverse backgrounds.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
