Summary

Tyson Brown is currently a Private Fire Investigator and previously spent 15 years with the Calgary Fire Department. He became a member of the Calgary Fire Department in November of 2004 where he gained valuable experience and training in many areas of fire fighting. His education and experience would be an asset to any Fire Department. He attended the College of the Rockies in 2003 and attained numerous Fire Fighting certificates including his NFPA 1001 certification. He was in the role of Proffessional Firefighter from 2004-2009. He joined the Fire Investigation unit in January of 2009, and has conducted over 850 origin and cause investigations, including; large loss fires (5 million plus), vehicles, residential structures, commercial buildings, incendiary fires, and fire fatalities. He is certified to the NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator Professional Qualifications standard. Tyson works well within a team, and has played high level hockey in his younger years. He understands what it takes to use his individual skills and abilities be a part of a team and achieve success together while doing so.

  • Responsible for complete fire investigation as requested by insurance companies. Scene examination, witness interviews, research, & materials examinations.
  • Investigating fires with a variety of types of losses including; vehicles, commercial/industrial equipment, commercial buildings, residential homes, & appliances
  • Determining origin and cause and then reporting the cause and origin of the fire to the insurance company with a formal report, legal report, or preliminary report
  • To defend the findings of the report in court
  • Responsible for cost estimation and initial file setup with adjusters. Overall communication with the adjuster through the file and investigation process.

  • Worked as a full time fire fighter for the city of Calgary and responded to all emergency calls while on shift
  • During this time, was a trained and NFPA 472 certified Hazardous materials technician
  • Also was a trained pump tester, and did thourough testing on all city fire department pumper trucks to ensure there pump rating at all fire scenes
  • Also during this time did instructing as a field trainer for the fire cadet program at our training academy. This included training and teaching the students in the program to be competent in the different skills of a firefighter.
