My career with the Army Cadet Corps was short and sweet. I started out as a Civilian volunteer helping cadets and staff. Soon afterwards the CO asked if I would consider becoming an officer with the corps. I agreed and started the rigorous paperwork and screening. I became a Civilian instructor while the process of fully joining the corps took shape. While with 1726 RCACC I helped with FTX (field training), Marksmanship, fitness testing, ACR (annual ceremonial reviews), attendance, recruiting, Remembrance day ceremonies, and Parades. I missed going away to Borden Ontario to finish basic training due to having to move away. I am in the process of being released with dignity as an Officer Cadet.
I worked one on one with the owner/ veterinarian from it being a large animal practice with 1 veterinarian plus myself and helped it grow it to a multiple vet, fully staffed mixed animal hospital over the 10 years I was there.
Office management duties: Daily and Monthly financial reports, staffing, ensuring patient schedule was streamlined for examinations, farm calls, surgical/ laboratory procedures, Inventory ordering, working with drug reps. Ensured hospital was already for CVMA audits.
Lead Tech duties: Ensuring prescriptions are filled, surgical monitoring, induced patients for surgery, Performed laboratory tasks such as blood draws and sample analysis using equipment such as centrifuges, microscopes, refractometer and POC lab equipment. Performed x-rays and ultrasounds. Maintain laboratory and surgical equipment. Controlled drug/narcotic logs and administration were complete and accurate.
