- Integrated technology through the use of Chromebooks. Led students in collaborative activities using technology to communicate, research, and create.
- Served as a member of the district planning committee to create essential standards for 6th-grade math. On-site, I worked on creating common formative assessments to assess essential standards.
- Acted as my school's assessment lead, guiding data-informed instructional practices, and supporting continuous improvement efforts.
- Served as a member of the district math pilot committee to choose new materials to meet the needs of the new Common Core math standards and mathematical practices. Selected to create year-long pacing guides to assist teachers in the implementation of new materials.
- Collaborated with colleagues to address the shifts in the Common Core. Created long-term and short-term lesson plans that included an emphasis on text-dependent questioning, evidence-based writing and discussion, and informational reading.
- Received training in the balanced literacy model for ELA. Implemented a reader's workshop model of teaching that included guided leveled reading, literature circles, strategy groups, a leveled library, and mini lessons. Implemented a writer's workshop model that took students through the writing process of collecting, planning, revising, publishing, and celebration. Included shared reading, differentiated word study, and interactive read-aloud in ELA instruction.
- Collaborated with a team of teachers to compartmentalize in different subjects. Responsible for ELA and Science lessons, emphasized through project-based learning.
- Created a 'Greek Olympic Unit' that educated students in ancient customs and encouraged teamwork through athletic events. Students annually participated in a multitude of athletic and academic events that encouraged teamwork, character, and historical education.
Co-leader of the Rascal Representatives and the student leadership club that organized events, provided leadership for the school, and participated in community programs. Organized a book drive, canned food drive, and used and new toy drive.
- Organized and fundraised for students to attend Outdoor Science School. Managed school fundraising for sixth graders to earn money to pay for Outdoor Science School. Implemented a Jog-a-thon, held parent meetings, and communicated with camp officials. I attended camp for over 15 years as a teacher.
- Two-year fellow with Cotsen, where I focused on CGI math. Attended relevant professional development and conferences, and was part of a community of learners with fellow colleagues.
