· Listen to students’ career aspirations and advise them on the education and experience needed to attain that career.

· Explore students’ interests and strengths to help them narrow in on a career concentration best suited to their needs and skill level.

· Evaluate students’ background, training, limitations and education in order to help the student develop realistic career goals.

· Educate students on job search skills and industry trends in order to get them prepared for employment.

· Assessing students’ personal characteristics, skills and interests via individual interviews and/or group work.

· Discover students' motivation and long-term aspirations.

· Counsel students on fine-tuning their work habits and skills in preparation for competitive employment.

· Oversee students on group stage, while noting their strengths and weaknesses and helping to improve on these where necessary.

· Teach students how to write a resume and cover page, help prepare students for interviews, discuss the importance of networking, and how to search for a job online.

· Sort and submit qualified students’ resumes to employers.

· Accompany students on interviews; help set-up work schedules and expectations.

· Travel train students on how to use the bus, train and metro system to get to and from their workplace.

· Help students with disabilities get additional accommodations, such as additional travel training from the MAB or Mackay Centre when needed.

· Help students deal with personal issues that affect their work experience, and provide crisis intervention when needed.

· Acting as a liason between students and their families, as well as school staff, and the community to create an environment that promotes success at the workplace, and positive social interactions.

· Keep detailed records of work hours, disciplinary measures taken, accident reports, tasks completed to achieve vocational certificates, etc.

· Help resolve workplace issues.

· Keep track, oversee and document students' progress.

· Complete reports and evaluations on students’ progress at the workplace.

· Provide assistance and guidance to students who need help with their everyday work activities or learning new tasks.

· Create task lists to help keep students on track.

· Maintain regular contact with employers for new job opportunities.

· Develop new employers through job search engines, cold calling, mailing and visits.

· Occasionally assist in job fairs, career awareness programs, and other career specific workshops and events.

· Attend local career fairs, industry conferences and other networking events to generate new employers.

· Keeping up to date with information about training routes, professional regulations and the job market.

· Initiated outreach to internal and external business partners, establishing a pipeline of qualified job seekers and employers.

· Assist employers on adapting to our students’ disabilities.

· Create and distribute documents to support our vocational program.

· Visit and evaluate students at their worksites in the whole greater Montreal area, including but not limited to Laval, South Shore, West Island and Montreal-North.

· Help to transition students into paid job positions as they get ready to graduate.
