Having joined RBC Law Group in Montreal in 1983 as Associate Counsel, I progressed through various roles and responsibilities in succeeding years to the position of Assistant General Counsel in charge of the Regulatory Law group in Toronto. I retired from that position in January, 2021.


  • Developed highly successful strategies to represent and protect bank legal interests, achieve business objectives and resolve disputes.
  • Significant involvement in decennial Bank Act review and revision through the bank's membership in the Canadian Bankers Association.
  • Drafted, reviewed and negotiated contracts and legal documentation in relation to consumer retail and business banking, trust, loan and insurance products.
  • Organized committee and board meetings: drafted governance policies, minutes, resolutions, delegations of authority and by-laws.
  • Filed applications for letters patent, charters and other incorporating instruments.
  • Key liaison and point person in relation to institutional membership in the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC).
  • Supervised lawyers, law students and staff in compliance with all relevant human resources policies and procedures.
