As the Communications Coordinator for the University of Ottawa Student Union (UOSU), I led and oversaw the entire communications department, managing a team of staff across several sub-departments, including graphic design, photography, videography, translation, and web development. I personally created each of the branding packages for the student union's services, ensuring that all materials were visually cohesive, accessible, and aligned with UOSU's mission. A key aspect of my role was ensuring all communications met accessibility standards. I prioritized inclusive design by adhering to WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) for digital content, and testing color contrast to ensure that graphics were legible to individuals with visual impairments. I ran every color code through specialized programs to confirm that all materials were accessible and visually effective for a broad audience. This attention to detail helped UOSU foster an inclusive environment for students, regardless of their abilities. My expertise in graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Canva allowed me to deliver high-quality, professional results on tight deadlines, while maintaining a cohesive visual language across all UOSU communications.
I also led the coordination of communications across multiple channels, working closely with other departments to ensure consistent messaging, and effective outreach. This included managing UOSU’s social media presence, developing content calendars, and coordinating internal communications to keep the team aligned. Through my leadership and collaboration, I helped elevate the visibility of UOSU’s services, events, and initiatives, engaging a larger student audience and enhancing the union’s overall impact on campus life.
