DEMA Consulting & Management provides medical services at homeless shelters across Sonoma County, California. We contract with the County of Sonoma to provide a walk-in, urgent care type medical clinic with medical services for high-risk and at-risk unsheltered persons. Many of the patients have been unsheltered for many years, they have complex medical histories with extensive co-morbidities and health problems. I began as the Clinical Educator, with my duties including, but not limited to, providing education to our medically-trained and licensed/certified medical staff, covering open shifts as an RN as needed, providing medical care to patients as needed, ensuring all staff is up to date with required licenses/certifications, maintaining records and systems to track staff progress. I was then promoted to take the Director of Nursing position, where I was in charge of reviewing all medical documentation, ensuring all medical staff is appropriately trained, provided new hire medical and operational training for multiple shelter sites, providing discipline to staff members and assistance to the HR Director as needed, collaborate with the Medical Director and Director of Operations on resident policies, protocols and procedures related to the medical aspect of the company, filling in as an RN at all sites, as needed. After one of the RN Case Managers left the company, I then filled in for that position on a temporary basis, along with my Director of Nursing duties.
My responsibilities include telephone triage and assessment of members in all service fields (Medicine, OB/GYN, PEDS), documentation and chart review, consult with Medical Doctors as appropriate, develop appropriate plans for member, provide medical advice.
My responsibilities include overseeing the day to day operations of this alternative health clinic, under the direction and license of Medical Director Dr. Amy Adams, managing a team of 5 employees and training new employees. The management of the employees include monthly and yearly evaluations to identify strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement; oversee and manage vacation and time off requests, fill in for sick calls, oversee and manage payroll, identify issues that arise and provide solutions to problems.
