Summary

To obtain the guidance counsellor position at Fort la Reine, where I am currently teaching grade three. As an experienced teacher of 28 years. I take pride in my ability to develop positive relationships with my students, parents and fellow teaching staff. I was a counsellor at Fort la Reine for a year and really enjoyed the position. I was encouraged by fellow staff to apply for this position and feel I have an excellent rapport with children, parents and community members.

  • Worked with children and families providing social services in the fields of child protection, intake, children's services, mental health issues, substance abuse, and other abuse cases.

Marymound School
  • Taught physical education and health to students at Marymound School, where most students resided at the locked facility in the school living units or group homes. The youth that I worked with come from very troubled backgrounds and many were often in crisis. I was also summer programmer and was responsible for recreational programming for the girls who lived at Marymound during the summer months. My responsibilities included planning, organizing, scheduling, equipment and event purchasing and transportation for summer programs.

  • Currently teaching grade three at Fort la Reine School. Since 2002 I have held many positions including kindergarten, grade 1, grade 3, grade 5, school counsellor and special needs teacher in a Primary Learning Assistance Class. In 2004, I taught grade six Social Studies/Math mornings at La Verendrye School and grade seven English Language Arts afternoons at Yellowquill School. I started substitute teaching in Portage in 1998 and in 2000 accepted a term position at North Memorial School.
  • During my many years with the Portage School Division I have participated in many professional development opportunities. I have been involved in community and school sports, coaching junior high volleyball, basketball, badminton, curling and community baseball and soccer. I have belonged to various committees over the years, First Steps in Math, Ed. Finance, Wellness and I Love to Read committee. I also involved in our Fort la Reine Breakfast Program and have assisted in after school programs like beading, Pow Wow dancing and family activity nights.
