  • Assisted with the feeding and handling of various big cats at the Cango Reservation
  • Participated in research and data collection while observing the animals' behavior
  • Provided enrichment for the animals and learned about their lifestyles
  • Contributed to a team effort to perform endoscopies on the cheetahs
  • Additionally, conducted temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPR) assessments on the cheetahs at the facility
  • Responsibilities also included cleaning various enclosures, performing maintenance, rationing food, and general upkeep
  • Throughout this experience, created enrichment items and activities for the big cats to enjoy

  • Learned how to properly sanitize a research facility lab and collaborated with other interns to complete various tasks
  • Tasks included sanitization as well as handling mice, rats, and rabbits
  • Taught the importance of biosafety and how to identify potential risks while using personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety measures
  • Rinsed and soaked many mouse houses, bottles, and cage cards to ensure they were properly sanitized for later use
  • Created cages for the mice, ensuring they had everything they needed upon transfer
  • Made it a priority to maintain adequate levels of food and water for all research animals
  • Helped monitor the health of the mice and their litters and learned how to address situations where mouse pups were not delivered properly
  • Observed a necropsy of a mouse, gaining detailed insights into its anatomy and bodily functions
