TAMMY SORLEY

SYLVAN LAKE,AB

Summary

I am definitely a perfect candidate for this wonderful program. I have been very interested in the accounting field, for several years, but have not had the time, available funds, nor the opportunity to gain the appropriate knowledge. My mother has been a bookkeeper, for several years, and I have gained a great deal of respect for the profession. The parameters of this learning opportunity seem to fit perfectly into my life, at this time, and I would be so very grateful to be chosen to participate.

I have truly thrived in my past careers, but unfortunately Breast Cancer treatments (operations, chemotherapy, radiation, etc.) had taken control of my life for the past 6 years. Unfortunately, my cancer journey had forced my very early retirement from a career that I loved dearly. I spent 18 years, as a WestJet Flight Attendant, seeing many diverse cultures and learning invaluable customer service, leadership, teamwork and safety skills. It has been a tough road regaining my physical strength, abilities and mental acuity. Chemotherapy is no joke! I feel that I have lost much of my confidence and gaining the skills in this program would definitely give me the support that I need to re-enter a new career. I am at the age (53) that fosters the ability to gain new knowledge, succeed at a new career and thrive until my true retirement years. I am very enthusiastic about the possibilities.

Now strong, healthy, resilient and cancer free (YAYYYYYYY), I have found myself in a strange floating career space. The world wide effect of COVID 19, had truly added some obstacles to my career pursuits, as I was freshly immunocompromised and it was concerning to work in a public environment. Fortunately, this worry has diminished and I am ready to conquer the world. This amazing opportunity would surely elivate my confidence and truly help me re-enter the accounting-bookkeeping career world with gusto.

I have acquired valuable administrative/data entry skills, through a remote position, with AHS (Alberta Health Services) and as an enumerator for The Government of Canada. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being an office frontline team member and a community data collector. I think that gaining accounting skills and related software competence would be a true asset to my pursuit for a new career.

I am a hardworking, detail oriented, highly professional employee with exceptional customer service, multitasking and time management abilities.

I currently work for the Town of Sylvan Lake, as a part-time FACILITY ATTENDANT, at the Sylvan Lake Municipal Government Building and I love the community atmosphere. My flexible weekly schedule is 15-20 hours per week and my shift is 4:30-9PM. Therefor, my schedule would compliment the training sessions offered in this program. I feel that I have the aptitude and ability to learn bookkeeping and accounting SOPs/guidelines/policies and organizational regulations.

I would be honoured and grateful to be chosen for this program. As a cancer survivor, I truly believe that I can gain back what cancer has taken away from me, but I just require a little support to do so.

Thank you so much for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
