  • In my role as Director of Operations with the Town of Schreiber, I was responsible for Outsourcing projects, developing comprehensive Request for Proposals, developed a scoring system to ensure transparency, develop the contract and scope of work, then responsible for the project management. My strong written and oral communication skills proved to be an asset when dealing with contractors to ensure the best interest and value for the municipality.
  • Critical thinking and analysis were used to determine the costs of accidents and incidents incurred by my team. I used my extensive training program to develop and implement a plan which reduced these costs.
  • Advanced knowledge in using all Microsoft applications. I have developed professional forms and presentations. I used accounting software and spreadsheets to develop and maintain budgets of all sizes.

Human Resources

  • Set clear goals daily and developed a clear plan for the days work. At the end of the day, provided opportunities for feedback for the days events and how we could improve our productivity. This allowed the team to feel inclusive, and part of the solution required to get the job done effectively.
  • Mentored and trained patrollers and operators in my supervisor position with Carillion, to be career oriented with a focus on detail. I led the team to effectively address all highway maintenance issues quickly and effectively. The patrollers were trained to detect deficiencies concerning all aspects of the right of way like bridges, buildings, signs, vegetation, electrical issues, drainage and report them back to me. By engaging the team, I effectively built a plan to address any deficiencies and implemented the plan which the team took pride in delivering.
  • My patrol was always facing staff shortages, so I developed an annual training program to train and license drivers. As a result of successful completion, the operator gave the company a minimum two-year commitment. I successfully changed the dynamics of the “call in” practice and developed a schedule whereby successfully following the union agreement and providing all employees standard hours and scheduled days off. This proved to also solve employee retention beyond the two-year commitment.
  • Managed a staff of 30 employees and up to 50 with the Town of Marathon. I assigned work based on strength and weaknesses to obtain the most productive teams. The teams were assigned work orders that were prioritized and manipulated the equipment and materials to ensure all work was completed safely and on time. Under my leadership the team of employees learned to multitask and use time wisely.
  • Manage a staff of 8 with the Town of Schreiber. This requires a very different dynamic, it requires careful planning and time management. My strong communication skills and team building skills helped make the work force successful at completing their task in a timely manner.
  • Actively listen to the workforce by implementing the skills I learned in “Captivating your workforce”. By involving the workforce, I motivate, boost moral and increase productivity. When involving the employees in developing the action plan they take more pride in carrying out the duties which leads to a successful outcome. While still skillfully guiding the direction for the plan as laid out by the management team.
  • Encourage my team to work inclusively, to support and share each other strengths. As a result, I was able to build my team’s capacity to perform all tasks at any time and become diversified at their jobs.
  • Developed a safe environment where staff felt safe, appreciated, and respected by each other.
  • Launched a successful program to source out potential employees, developed interview standards so the process was fair for all applicants, developed a hiring process where the successful applicants were put through a training program, was able to launch and apply this new hiring program while maintaining regular maintenance duties, so no work fell behind or was neglected.
  • Evaluated staff using the company’s policies and procedures, completing all evaluation forms in a timely manner, was able to offer constructive conversations with staff to encourage and engage them to constantly improve productivity.
  • Conflict resolution is required in my position as Director of Operations. It is important to always stay calm. It is my experience that listening to customers whether right or wrong gives them a sense of satisfaction just having someone listen to their concerns. My strong leadership skills can influence a satisfactory resolution for all concerned where all parties are satisfied.
  • Diplomacy and a high level of confidentiality is required for sensitive matters in my role as a Director of Operations.

Programs/Services

  • Administered, implemented and understood the multi year Ministry of Transportation highway road maintenance contract. I had to analyse the performance outcomes and strategically plan the work to address the many different maintenance tasks. Work had to be prioritized effectively to optimize the operation in both summer and winter operations. As Director of Operations for a Municipality, understanding contracts, the Municipal Act, Legislation, and policies enable me to effectively ensure that the level of service is maintained in all aspects of municipal services and contracts.
  • Successfully moved a business forward by managing a patrol yard with one of the worst records in the area to the best operated, best maintained, best staff retention and eliminating all non-conformance fines. This patrol yard has won company awards for innovative thinking, sustainability, retention and most productive work force in the company due to my leadership and innovative approaches.
  • I am familiar with administrative procedures, reporting requirements and performed the appropriate documentation. My work requires open communication with the Mayor and Council to ensure critical matters are brought forward in a timely manner. I attend Council meetings prepared with information that can address all questions.

  • As Director of Operations, I am responsible for preparing reports to council on all matters. I coordinated my staff to submits reports for me for review and editing. I was able to accurately report to Council in a timely manner. I was responsible for tracking all correspondence from outside agencies and compile an accurate list of topics for Council meetings.
  • I have experience in applying related legislation in several areas such as the Highway Traffic Act, Fisheries Act, Aggregate Resources Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Minimum standards, endangered species and vegetation, and the Municipal Act.
  • Risk management of potential litigation or public complaints against the company or Township was required, therefore proper documentation is critical. These are legal documentation tools that are used in court proceedings. My attention to detail in documenting every detail has proven beneficial when referring months or years later to be effective in avoiding court appearances. My documentation was paramount in clarifying details at a discovery hearing level therefore avoiding litigation in court.
  • As Director of Operations for the Township of Schreiber I am responsible for constantly monitoring liabilities. Community audits as well as workplace audits have proven to lower the Municipality exposure.
