I am an undergraduate student at Duke University interested in engineering, healthcare, and design. I love being challenged with a problem no one has solved yet and thinking creatively about a solution. To me, engineering is about deeply engaging with the world around me; I love to draw inspiration from nature, technology, art, and the people that surround me.
Supervised employees at the Duke rock climbing wall, managed equipment rental requests, taught belay classes, administered belay tests, routeset (created the routes on the wall), provided customer service to gear renters and climbing wall patrons, monitored the wall for safety
Aided in the ongoing development of a pulmonary fibrosis drug by working towards the humanization of a GRP murine antibody, performed PCR, gel electrophoresis, and minipreps
Volunteered in children and adult surgical waiting rooms, guided family members to bed spaces, consultation rooms, and other destinations throughout the hospital, attended to hospital guest needs such as retrieving blankets and placing wristbands on child patients
Built prototypes of Piccolo Medical’s peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC), developed a torque test fixture, created website graphics for sister company Ananya Health
Worked on a team of 5 students to develop a remotely-controlled, automated flagpole system for Duke University’s 16 flagpoles, communicated with client Lee Clayton (locksmithing specialist at Duke) to understand the problem and client needs, designed appropriate device layout considering constraints such as weather resistance and budget, innovated adaptation mechanisms for existing mechanical parts as well as designed new parts via CAD, achieved proof of concept on December 5, 2022 for a remotely controlled device that can achieve lowered, half-mast, and raised flag positions via web commands
Developed patternmaking and sewing techniques for at-home hobbyists with limited resources, created educational tutorials, generated 186,000 followers on TikTok (TikTok handle: taliarohandmade), sold custom pieces
