Rockyview General Hospital - Unit 81 - Orthopedic Services Inpatient

• Monitored vital signs, fluid intake and output levels, glucose levels, and electrolytes
• Delivering an array of direct nursing care services including post-operative sterile wound care, insertion of catheters, ostomy care, wound vac care, admission of pre/post-operative and non-surgical patients, coordinated discharge for patients with musculoskeletal conditions, including total joint replacement, amputations, and fractures.
• Administered medication including blood products, narcotics, preparing PCA's, IV antibiotics, and IV electrolytes.
• Instruct patients on how to use assistive devices and provide instructions on proper body mechanics during activities of daily living.
• Educated patients about their treatment plans and post-operative care requirements and follow up care.
• Collaborated with physical and occupational therapists, case managers, social work, internal medicine, infectious disease, surgeons, and nurse practitioners during treatment, examination and testing.
• Monitored post-operative recovery progress; reported any changes in status to attending physician.
• Responding to emergency response code on the unit.
• Providing palliative and end of life nursing care.
• Insertions on IV's, HDC lines, care and administration of medications through PICC lines.
