Steve Jacko

• I have spent over 33 years enforcing Federal and Provincial Laws in Ontario and experience in assisting citizens,investigations from beginning to finish. I am a very experienced,driven and conscientious Officer . I've dedicated my life to saving lives, increasing public awareness and safety,while helping to bring down crime. I continue to build on my skills and happy to always contribute my skillset to other Constables having had a substantial amount of experience with conflict and crisis intervention as well as administrative duties. I enjoy sharing the wide peripheral of knowledge and experience I've gained over the years with others in the Police Force. While working in Kenora,Ontario, I am very proud of the public relations i had built with everyone from every walk of life. Everyone knew me to enforce and have a major impact on the Impaired driving stats in Kenora. I received recognition and awards from MADD and Arrive Alive, even receiving a Regional Commander Letter where upon he stated and recognized my efforts and impact on the number of Impaired Driving charges i laid ranking me as one of the leading Officers in the province.
• Managed many crime scenes to date in order to protect personnel,preserve evidence, collect evidence and documented chain of custody for ongoing investigations. Providing witness testimony in traffic and criminal cases.
• Led shift briefings to disseminate information such as, informing officers of properties to check, issue patrol assignments and follow up on individuals of note in local areas.
• Encourage the Officers to continue a positive moral within the department and each other. Discuss any constructive feedback from P.C,s regarding policy and activities in the Department.
• Led undercover sting operations by mediating perpetrators and protected victims from harm. An example of this was my ability at gain intelligence,trust and assess the perpetrator during a Domestic related Hostage situation in order to isolate,contain and evaluate the hostile situation at Whitedog Reserve .
• Responded to and assessed complaints,request for information to determine response requirements
• .Reported deficient streetlights, signs and road surfaces to keep residents safe.
• Engaged with local individuals and community leaders to discuss crime reduction strategies both in the Community and on the Reserves whereupon I was able to bridge the gap between Native/Status and Non-Native persons due to my Native Status and close relations,my wife, extended family,peers, as well as close friends, to Non-Native as well in order to build,foster and facilitate positive relations and support the Community.
• Enforced and investigated traffic law violations and ordinances through visual observation and radar speed detection. Including the ability to ensure street safety regarding aggressive drivers,distracted drivers,impaired drivers and enforcement of vehicle safety requirements while operating a vehicle according to the Highway Safety Act
• Crime Scene Preservation,evidence collection and conducted witness interviews as to gathering details regarding incidents to determine best course of action.
• Responded immediately to reports of automobile accidents and criminal activity,search and seizure of contraband, calling for additional support as necessary.
• Apprehension of suspects,case report preparation and witness testimony
• Promoted safe driving conditions by quickly identifying and removing disabled vehicles and obstructions from roadways.
• Protected life and property through enforcement of regulations and laws.
• Apprehended suspects, read Miranda Rights, and transported offenders to jail.
• Prepared and submitted incident reports regarding police activities and investigations.
• Confronted and resolved emergency and non-emergency situations.
• Performed general patrol services,responding to complaints and provided traffic control.
• Delivered expert courtroom testimony to support approximately 100 criminal cases involving Alcohol Impaired charges, drug possession, and assaults of various degree in the Criminal Courts
• Delivered in or around 500 expert courtroom testimonies in Provincial Courts regarding testifying Speeding infractions, Careless driving, etc. according to the Highway Traffic Act
• Provided crime prevention suggestions and recommendations in order to preserve and enhance the Community.
• Talked regularly with citizens to establish rapport and become familiar presence in area for ongoing Community relations
• Performed general patrol services and provided traffic control.

• Educated staff members on proper field procedures to boost public trust in officers and efficiency.
• Patrolled assigned areas to prevent and detect roadway crimes.
• Booked suspects into custody by processing mug shots and fingerprints.

I was responsible for 5 Constables and 1 First Nation Constables at Grassy Narrows Reserve.

Administration duties.

I was in charge of Detachment day to day function as well as responding to reports of criminal activity or additional support if needed.

My tasks involved approving reports and statements from other Constables.

Completing authorization of Overtime on the schedule and submission for pay.

I was in charge of very serious common occurrences on the Reserve of Domestic Violence, physical abuse ,neglect and at times,deaths.
