I believe I could be a great assetsto SMART International Association in the capacity of an International Organizer with the skills I've acquired in my 29+ years in the trade along with my educational and military experiences have helped me develop my teamwork and leadership skills with a goal of expanding opportunities of SMART members. Over my career, I've worked to solve complex projects, negotiating multiple contracts in Local 105, developed working relationship with employers and members. I understand the need to mentor the next generation of sheet metal workers and the ever evolving technology of the industry. I worked to develop and standardized processes to create efficiencies in the Local and our many Labor-Management Trust.

Work History

Business Manager/Pres

SMART Local 105
07.2010 - Current
  • As Business Manger and under my leadership, I led all eleven (11) negotiations fro SMART Local 105 in the past 3 years, from Building Trades agreements with wage increases of $16.25 over 5 years, Residential Contracts, Production agreements with BYD, Morin West, Duct/shop fabrication and Kitchen equipment fabrication agreement. I've also negotiated Local 105 Duct Cleaning agreement submitted to the DIR for a prevailing wage determination and to start a new apprenticeship program.
  • I've expanded Local 105 equality/market recoverer funds to expand utilization for all projects including prevailing wage projects with an emphasizes on Architectural sector of the industry , and created a pathway for Local 105 members to start their own residential company with extensive oversite and yearly reporting to membership.
  • Expanded Local 105 organizing efforts to monitor all non-union projects regardless of size, assigned 2 organizers to concentrate on top down organizing that's lead to signing of 23 shops( architectural, hvac, duct cleaning and Air balance). Hired the first female organizer in SMART Local 105's history.
  • We've expanded our apprenticeship program with purchasing a new JATC building in San Bernardino County. Through the JATC started a Veterans MC3 program in 2017 introduce Veterans to SMART Local 105 and transition from serving our country to becoming SMART Local 105 members
  • Assisted in creating Local 105's women's committee in 2017 to help with outreach to WINTER program, mentoring and foster a safe working environment for all members.
  • 15 years a trustee and Co-Chaired all funds and plans since 2022, including SoCal JATC with has expanded to building up our CADD detailing program, Service program, Fire Life Safety, and Architectural education. Co-Chaired the SMBPAC Trust funds that's grown to $1.4billion pension plan that's currently at 89% funded with solvency well into the future and $180 million dollar health plan, with yearly monitoring for benefit improvements
  • Hired a fulltime Political Director/Grant Writer that's brought over $5 million dollars in grants for SMART Local 105's apprenticeship programs, residential contractors and the Organizing department and connecting with Local, State and Federal elected officials to push Local PLA's, CWA's and CREED agreements to increase work hours and opportunities for our membership
  • Developed relationships with neighboring SMART Locals to foster more work opportunities for SMART members
  • Expanded SMART Army and social events throughout the Local to involve members and their families in community outreach.

  • Assisted Business Manager with special projects ,including developing SMART Local 105's Women's Committee , JATC's Veterans MC3 pre-apprenticeship program.
  • Worked directly with 8 full-time Business Representatives to assist in grievance, member issues, charges, and problem solving.
  • Assisted members with health and pension plan questions
  • Worked directly with SMART Local 105's Organizing Department to assist in PLA grievances and claiming SMART's scope of work at pre-job meetings
  • Mentored newer Business Representative with all facets of the position

  • Represented members the Largest Construction area in SMART Local 105's territory.
  • Handled members job-site and shop issues, filed grievance, claimed all scopes of work to create hours for SMART members. Worked with Signatory contractors to understand available opportunities
  • Cultivated relationships with members and contractors by understanding all needs of our members and the industry in an effort to increase hours.

  • Responsible for multi-million dollar mechanical projects through SMART Local 105 territory.
  • Supervised daily operations of members working on LAUSD schools, 2000 Avenue of the Stars 15 story, multi-tower projects, Cal-trans district 14 building (first 15 story green construction project in Los Angeles), Ambassador LAUSD learning center,coordinated project installation with other crafts, attended meeting with General Contractors to problem solve with other crafts.
  • Reviewed all specs and drawing for constructability, reviewed all submittals prior to releases of equipment and materials.
  • Coordinated all subcontractors to schedule installation and complete project. Detailed, ordered, and released all mechanical equipment and materials.
  • Created manloaded schedules to complete projects on time and under budget
  • Mentored apprentices and journeyman to help understand project installation and communication skills for success
