Prime Nurse - Eating Disorders In Patient Care

Homewood Health Centre
02.2015 - 11.2020
  • The Eating Disorders team provides treatment for those people whose eating disorder is severe enough that it cannot be managed on an outpatient basis, but not so severe that the patient requires medical management in a general hospital setting
  • The team focuses on symptom interruption, normalization of eating and skills acquisition prior to transitioning into more independent levels of care
  • Supporting clients in understanding, accepting and challenging their eating disorders is a prime focus of therapy while monitoring the medical complications associated with these disorders
  • Clients present to this team with anorexia nervousa, binge purge sub types, bulimia and ARFID
  • We primarily use DBT and CBT to challenge ED behaviours and beliefs
  • Coaching, motivational interviewing and behavioural activation were the primary treatment models

I worked with an exceptional multidisciplinary team and benefited greatly in my learning of how to make use of DBT and CBT skills while supporting clients as individuals rather than patients.
