Volunteering

Student Leadership & Youth Empowerment (SLYE)
While volunteering for this organization, I had the opportunity to develop my skills and manage my responsibilities. One of the main skills that I learned was being compassionate. This helped me to understand what people were feeling and what help they needed. A responsibility that I took away from this experience would be communication. While helping with the youth outreach initiative, I learned to be able to gather information to find specific resources for an individual. This taught me how to correctly communicate with individuals in order to completely understand their needs. In turn, this also taught me patience, commitment, and dedication, which enhanced my overall ability to become an effective and efficient leader.

St. John Ambulance Food Bank Drive at Metro Inc.

This position encompassed many responsibilities that would help benefit me in a work environment. These responsibilities included organizing and packing the donated food. This enhanced my organizational skills and taught me to be diligent as I had to prepare the bags within a deadline. Another skill that was enhanced was my collaboration. Working alongside my peers allowed me to create a positive work environment and improve my work ethic to successfully complete my assigned duties at the food bank.

Manhattan Park Junior Public School (Teacher Assistant) May, 2024 to June, 2024

Primarily assisted the Grade 1 and 2 class with a variety of classroom activities, including:

  • Supporting individual students and small groups with their literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Assisting in group art activities, such as painting and crafts stations.
  • Helping supervise classroom activities, outdoor sports events, and recess.
  • Providing additional support during class projects and special events.

I demonstrated dedication, professionalism, and a focus on supporting the students' learning and development while contributing to a positive learning environment. Additionally, I will be returning in the fall to help out as needed.
