I have participated in a variety of volunteer work throughout my high school years which has earned me 142 hours so far. I am aiming to receive an award for most volunteer hours, as well as the opportunity to include the organizations I have worked with or have yet to work with, on my transcript.
Here are a couple of examples of volunteer work I have completed throughout grades 10 and 11.
The New Canadians Centre Young Leaders (NCCYL):
NCCYL is a youth leadership group for new comer youth, organized by the New Canadians Centre here in Peterborough which runs September to June. I engage in weekly meetings, trainings, and projects while building leadership skills in the process. In NCCYL, I actively participate and offer my opinion and feedback to any events we may be working on. I have gained experience in event organization, group discussions, teamwork and presentation/event preparation through being a part of this council. Since discovering NCCYL in grade 10, I have made some amazing connections and am a current member of the group and plan to join in grade 12.
Assistant Coach for Beach Volleyball
Leaside Volleyball Club offers a beach volleyball camp during summer which I have attended for the past 4 years. It is located in Toronto on the beach of Ashbridges Bay Park. In August of 2023 I volunteered for two weeks helping campers ages 8-12. I stayed on the beach from 9am-4pm, helping coaches with drills, cleanup, setup and coaching campers. I gained leadership skills, communication skills and coaching experience from this volunteer oppurtunity.
