Sophia Probstel

• In NCL , mothers and their daughters participate in enriching program that embraces philanthropy, leadership and culture.
• My tasks as a volunteer is to understand and provide services to our communities in partnership with local and national nonprofits , I worked for Dream Foundation, Explore Ecology, Food Bank, Garden Court Senior Community, Santa Barbara Museum of Art & Ridley Tree Education Center
• I support public relations efforts by representing the organization at various community events, like the Snow Leopard festival at the Santa Barbara Zoo, SB museum of Art Kids Gift Making workshop.
• NCL helps building capable, courageous leaders through opportunities to learn, reflect and develop:
• Confidence
• Consensus building
• Team building
• Conflict resolution
• Event planning
• Parliamentary procedure

La Mariposa has built up very close ties with the community to provide an educational and safe space for local children. I found myself singing songs with the children for their English project in the Panama Barrio, or getting my hands dirty working in the garden of medicinal plants.

My volunteering duties were:

• Help with reading/writing in English
• Creative activities – dance, music, art, craft work
• Sport – basketball, football, swimming
