Overview:

The project distributes a yearly 50 Thousand dollars budget to local non profits in the county based on a student created mission statement. The project is entirely student led with out outside influence. During the grant application process, we review, discuss, vote, interview, and make final decisions of who the project will fund for that year. As the Co-Head of the project I:

  • Led and organized meetings for a student led board.
  • Facilitated numerous debates in terms of what the project's final decisions may be.
  • Helped create a mission statement for the project
  • Help plan and organize a banquet for the project, the donor, and the recipients of that year.
  • Created many graphs, polls, and logs with Google tools.
  • Interpreted tax documents and broke down up to 30 organization's budgets in a way that was user friendly for the project to use.

Sophomore Expedition Co-Leader

Overview:

Sophomore Expedition is a program that is in it's 30th year at my previous high school where the entire sophomore class is invited to go on a 10-day backpacking overnight. This spring was my 3rd year with the program and we took out a total of 97 teenagers in 9 groups. Each group consisting of two older adults with first responder qualifications and two teenagers called co-leaders that have wilderness first aid qualifications and are both a mentor & peer for the children but also as extra support in terms of safety.


As a Co-Leader I:

  • Ensured the safety of the group across many different terrain and environments
  • Supported students both with their mental needs as a peer and with their physical needs as a certified aid.
  • Promoted team building activities and overall positivity during rough times
  • Supported my Co with their needs as we are both working through the trip as a team.
